What’s the difference between luxury vinyl plank and luxury vinyl tile?

So you’ve decided to have luxury vinyl put down on your floors, but the question is, which one? Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) or luxury vinyl tile (LVT)? This is a common question that we have asked of us, and we want to fill you in on the differences.

Which do you need?

Both LVP and LVT are very similar in many respects. This includes the outstanding durability they have for every room in your home. In addition, they have a wear layer that helps protect from scratches, stains, fading, and dents.

They both offer wood, stone, and tile appearance, with a plethora of colors and patterns. The LVP is made of plastic composite wood at its core. The LVT is made of plastic composite tile at its core. The core is PVC, a standard construction material that is entirely impervious to water.

LVP comes in a plank format, with long strips of varying widths, is generally flexible, and adheres well to the subfloor. LVT comes in a square tile format. This tile is usually stiff and harder than the LVP. You have the option of getting grout in the tile format to enhance the tile appearance. The question is, which do you prefer? Do you want a wood look? Or a tile look? Whatever your preference, luxury vinyl can meet it.
